I guess I’m another reader who didn’t know Google maps offered this service.

I use Google maps quiet heavily and my fallback solution for non-Javascript users was a screen grab of the interactive map with the markers shown.

It works well. However, I have decided to keep using my method over this suggested method. My two reasons:

1) Loading a local image is quicker than requesting it from Google.

2) If the static Google maps service is down (chances of this are probably very little) the user doesn’t get the Google response error and left confused.
