I used to design several comps in Illustrator/Photoshop: homepage, subpage, etc. These days I tend to just use photoshop to design one or in rare cases two. Once the look and feel is finalized then I start kicking out the site in html/css. And then sometimes during the build I screenshot and jump back into photoshop to quickly experiment with color or layout.

So I already partially do this approach—it’s more a hybrid really—but I can’t seeing myself ever skipping photoshop completely. There are two major flaws with this approach:

1. It would lead to a lot of same looking boxy designs.

2. no obvious sign off stage for the look and feel which could lead to massive iteration-itis and scope creep.
