This article is, sadly, a fairy tale to most people.
Please don’t make generalizations. They’ll get you in trouble.
You have a limited perspective on how other people design and develop. This article may be useless to you, but I use what Andy is talking about every single day.
I’ve personally never met a single-talented web developer (notice how I didn’t say “most people aren’t single-talented”). I am a designer, but knowing how to use the tools of my craft is worth its weight in gold. My design skills are useless to me if I have no idea how to turn them into HTML and CSS, the final fruits of my labor.
That’s like an architect not knowing about building materials. Or a chef who makes a mean recipe/plate design but can’t cook worth a damn.
