Wave is a great tool, however it is a little bit poor in analysing contrast so i would recomend http://www.paciellogroup.com/resources/contrastAnalyser to evaluate the color visibility and contrast of foreground/background color combinations and some visual conditions. I also found http://www.webaxe.org/ very helpful when it comes to learn about accessibility.
