Nick: This certainly wasn’t meant as a comprehensive error reporting solution. I believe that the solution you propose would benefit from having an image/icon denoting the error state in the heading. I’d be very much inclined to place that error image directly in the HTML. Even a big and bold heading can do with some visual reinforcement with appropriate graphics.
