I think it’s polarizing because of the antagonistic way in which these posts are often written (“Die, Photoshop, die” is the name of intro heading”). In an effort to sell itself, the concept is presented as vastly superior instead of just as an under-regarded alternative.
I agree that to each his own, and the tool doesn’t make the designer, but these posts are rarely written in a way that encourages that type of response.
