Great Article… I’ve been doing mockup in markup ocassionally and after reading this article maybe I should do it always.
The only problem I see is when the designer is not the front-end coder, in that case is almost mandatory use PNG files for the mockup.
I prefer using Fireworks PNG rather than a PSD, because is a more accurate in the final results and is easier for a coder to get properties of the elements.
Photoshop is great to create the cool images… not for an entire mockup.
