@Dave Sparks: Don’t bring me into the argument (no wait… you did). From working with RGBa on the recent CannyBill project (and others), I found that IE7 would choke on the rgba properties.
It would apply the first RGB values, then choke when it read the RGBA values. Because it understood the second color property (but not values) it would revert to browser default. Hex values on the other hand seemed to be fine.
Of course I could be wrong (as I usually only give IE a minute or two) and there are much cleverer people here who deal with IE much more regularly than I do (poor souls).
