Great suggestion about handing over a color chart. I always used to get frustrated that developers would add their own colors on form components that were a poor match to site template. Then, as you alluded to, I discovered that just because I love photoshop for web design-storming doesn’t mean that the code-jockeys do.
I started handing over the color keys and all became right in the world.
Another technique that sometimes works (if you have open minded developers) is to allow the designers to pre-design everything including mockups of the forms and interfaces. This can be done as early as the spec creation and can be of tremendous benefit to the sales team when finalizing projects with clients. This mockup can be used through the entire life cycle.
