Hi Eric, since you’ve quoted me I’d like to note that I’m far from suggesting cutting the arm off — I’m saying leave the arm exactly how it is!

I certainly support the notion of a “web aesthetic” in the sense that we have to pay more attention to the limitations and opportunities of the medium. I’m not a proponent or romanticist in an all-typography web, but in this particular case of images, it’s my opinion that there really isn’t too much of a issue we need to “solve” right now. The bigger “fix” is avoiding design that requires overlay indulgent decorative styles. That’s what I mean about using less raster graphics. Consider repurposing the Windows Phone 8 over the iOS skeumorphic design style online — the first is inherently more suited to the web.
