Great article and examples! Ideally, it’d be great to jump straight into the markup and get going on a site design, but I think it really depends on the site. Sites that are very image heavy and require a lot of graphic based effects are designed much quicker in photoshop. If the design is more minimal and can run 90% off a css file, then designing within the browser can be much quicker.
For instance, a site I designed for a musician had to start in photoshop (michalegraves.net), but a wordpress theme was much quicker within the browser (http://honker.evaneckard.com). You can see the visual change in style depending on the start point.
